Freedom of Information

Find out about the Orkney Research and Innovation Campus' obligations under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act.

How to make a Freedom of Information request

As a public body and joint venture between Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Orkney Islands Council, we comply with the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act. ORIC has adopted and is aligned with HIE’s Freedom of Information process.

The Act provides a right of access to information held by public bodies. It is enforced by the Office of the Scottish Information Commissioner who has the necessary powers to regulate compliance.

The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 requires Scottish public authorities to produce and maintain a publication scheme. Authorities are under a legal obligation to:

  • Publish the classes of information that they make routinely available
  • Tell the public how to access the information and what it might cost
